Two Piece Doll Pajamas Sewing Tutorial

Get the pattern here. See the video here.

Print the pattern:

Download the pattern and print actual size. For directions to print actual size, and to adjust the size of the pattern, see this link. Use the following chart for measurements and required fabrics. Please adjust the fabric required to accommodate one-way patterns on the fabric, as needed. You will also need elastic 1/4″ or smaller.

Assemble the pattern:

Tape the pattern pieces together, as needed, at the shaded areas – as shown in the picture below.

Shirt:

Sew the sleeves to the front (the edges without the notch).

Sew the back to the sleeves, matching notches.

Fold down 1/4-1/2″ of the edge of the neckline and sew, leaving enough space for the elastic to be inserted.

It is best that each of the seam allowances are pressed to the same side. This makes it easier to insert the elastic.

Measure a length of elastic around the neck of the doll. I prefer the neckline to be a little bigger than the neck, but the fit is up to you!

Insert the elastic to the casing and secure on both sides with a pin, placed a distance from the raw edge to keep out of the way of the machine needle.

Fold up the sleeve edges 1/4-12″ and sew, leaving enough space for the elastic to be inserted.

Measure a length of elastic on the doll’s wrist for proper fit. Be careful to not make it too tight.

Insert the elastic and secure on both sides with a pin. Place the pin away from the fabric edge to keep out of the way of the machine needle.

Sew the side seams, securing the elastic in place.

Fold up 1/4-1/2″ of the bottom hem and sew into place.

Sew the back seam, securing the neck elastic into place.

Pants:

Sew the front crotch seam of the pants. The front is the side without the notch.

Fold down 1/4-1/2″ of the waistline and sew into place, allowing enough room for the elastic to be inserted.

Measure a length of elastic to fit the doll’s waist. It should fit the waist exactly, or be slightly shorter than the waist for proper fitting.

Insert the elastic and secure with pins on each side. Place the pins far enough away from the edge to keep out of the way of the machine needle.

Sew the back crotch seam, securing the elastic into place.

Fold up the hems on the ankles 1/4-1/2″ and sew into place.

Sew the inseam.

Place the garments on the doll.

Happy Sewing!
