Brandy Old Fashioned

A brandy old fashioned is a Wisconsin tradition.

There are holiday traditions in Wisconsin, and the Old Fashioned is one of them.

Wisconsin is known for lively people who celebrate all things fermented and distilled. Oktoberfest comes to mind immediately. In the 20 years that I spent living there, I adopted many of their seasonal traditions, including brandy cocktails at the holidays. My favorite is the Old Fashioned. Here is how I enjoy mine at home…

First, put some orange slices in a glass.

Add some cherries

Sprinkle over a little sugar

Pour over some bitters

Muddle the mixture until juicy

Add ice

Pour over 1oz. Brandy

Top with clear soda. For an Old Fashioned “sweet” add lemon lime soda. For “sour” add grapefruit soda. Some prefer their old fashioned with soda water.

Stir to blend and serve with an orange and cherry garnish
